Kid-friendly kitchen design tips
It is important to create a safe space for your little one to explore in your home, and your kitchen is no exception. Your child’s needs will evolve as he or she ages, but here are some tips to get you started on making a space that works for everyone in your home.
Focus on flooring
One concern for parents is making sure their kitchen design is safe for their youngster. Start with a durable floor where they can safely play. Bamboo flooring is an excellent example because it is sustainable and more forgiving of falls than a harder material like tile or stone. Bamboo is also found to be safer for kids than some other materials that may emit harmful chemicals into the air.
Keep it clean
Every parent likes tips for keeping their space clean, especially with children in the house. Countertops are available in a variety of materials that can make cleanup more efficient. One example is a laminate countertop. They won’t absorb spills or messes because they are not porous like natural stone. Laminate comes in many different colors that you can use to match the design in your kitchen. Make cleaning up a family event by letting little ones help too, but make sure to check the labels of your cleaning materials to make sure they are also kid-friendly.
Designate a drawer
Making access to your child’s utensils, cups and plates easier for them by designating a reachable drawer just for their things is another way to keep them safe. This will make it safer for them to help out in the kitchen and protect them from climbing on counters to find what they need in cabinets that are out of reach.
