Smith & Fong Co. today announced it has secured certification according to the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) enabling the company to produce the world’s first range of FSC-certified bamboo plywood and flooring.
Product will be available to the North American market by this summer.
“The independent European FSC-certifier Institut für Marktökologie (IMO) was impressed with our forestry practices and agreed that if we could meet the same FSC standards for a tree forest, it would certify our bamboo source,” Smith & Fong president and founder Dan Smith said.

Smith & Fong is proudly sponsoring The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture and Design, an exhibit at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The design and installation of this 7,000-square-foot exhibition, by the award-winning architectural firm of Lewis.Tsu- rumaki.Lewis (LTL), embodies and illustrates green principles. Smith & Fong Plyboo and Durapalm materials will be used throughout this exhibit that "combines new, high-tech materials and old-fashioned architectural wisdom to create houses that are glamorous, comfortable, and that sit lightly on the land,” according to Donald Albrecht, the exhibition’s lead curator.
